Community Engagement Training

The Essential Wellness Therapeutic Program, LLC was created in response to the recent spotlight that has been placed on Baltimore City due to the issues surrounding police misconduct associated with Freddie Gray and the HBO series "We Own the City." Therefore, Essential Wellness Therapeutic Program, LLC decided to change the narrative for the city we cherish by providing Community Engagement Training to Law Enforcement Agencies within our city.

Police misconduct gained the media's attention during the unfortunate and notable death of Freddy Gray, on April 12, 2015, in Baltimore Maryland. This locally and nationally publicized event adversely affected the community, causing riots, distrust between the community, and the implementation of a consent decree. This high-profile case amplified the community’s awareness of proposed systematic racism and police misconduct. The origin of modern-day policing can be traced back to operations of the Slave Patrol, which unfortunately has transcended into the making of Law Enforcement Entities throughout history. History has also provided countless documented incidents of police misconduct ranging from the 1969's killing of Fred Hampton, to the 1991's beating of Rodney King, including the 2015's death of Baltimore’s own Freddy Gray, and countless other victims, throughout the United States.

To help abolish unethical behaviors and wrong doings Essential Wellness Therapeutic Program will administer community engagement training and de-escalation techniques such as verbal and nonverbal supports used to create new and positive proceedings, enhance situational mindfulness, conduct proper policing assessments, and improve decision-making skills to reduce the possibility of any police misconduct. Applying these techniques should safeguard community interactions and policing.

The purpose of the trainings is to reduce police misconduct in order to regain trust within the community. By providing community engagement training for both officers and civilians, law enforcement agencies and community organizations can promote collaboration, trust, and mutual respect, leading to safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.
